ArmInfo. The detention of the Chairman of the Urban Planning Committee of Armenia became sad, both offensive and joyful. This was announced on February 6 at a meeting of the Government of the Republic of Armenia by Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.
According to him, it's sad, because the official, using the flag, the coat of arms and the people of the country, was able to "reach out for dirty things."
It's insulting, since the same official who acted under the flag and emblem of the state intended to submit a bribe of $ 5 thousand application for the title of "Honored Builder of Armenia" to the Prime Minister. "This is an insult both to my personal address, and to the people, and to the values of the non-violent velvet revolution of 2018," the head of government said. He continued, joyfully, because if there were people in the country who doubted the determination of the country's authorities to put an end to corruption, they realized that "everything is much more serious than they could have imagined." "And if there are doubters, I promise that we will come for these people," said Nikol Pashinyan.
Recall that on the eve of the RA National Security Service reported the detention of the chairman of the Committee for Urban Development of Armenia Vahagn Vermishyan, who, according to the report, using official powers, contrary to state interests and having agreed with several developers, received five bribes in the amount of from 1 to 2.5 million drams in return to make the necessary building decisions. To hide the receipt of bribes, Vermishyan opened a company conducting design work and registered it in the name of one of his relatives. For receiving projects, the official sent to her the developers with whom he worked. In addition, in October 2019, Vermishyan met with the owner of several construction companies, whom he promised to introduce him to the title of Honored Builder of Armenia. In exchange, he received $ 5 thousand and building materials for about the same amount.
As part of the criminal case, the suspects were taken to the SNB, and three of them, including the chairman of the committee, were detained. The official who received the bribe confessed to the crime. The investigation is ongoing.
Vermishyan was appointed Chairman of the Urban Development Committee on March 21, 2019. Prior to that, in 2017-18, he was an adviser to the mayor of Yerevan, and in 2014-2017 - the chief architect of the Oryol region. Among Vermishyan's projects are the first and second terminals of Domodedovo Airport, a seaport in Sochi with coastal infrastructures, a sports complex in Astrakhan, and a new Yerevan circus.
