ArmInfo. During our meeting with the acting Police Chief Arman Sargsyan, we discussed police reforms, the incident with the detention of 4 activists on January 28 and a number of other issues. This was announced on January 30 in an interview with reporters by the Deputy Speaker of the Armenian Parliament Alen Simonyan.
He also noted that the activists detained on January 28 are not political figures. "Political figures may be subjected to political persecution, and recently detained activists are not such," Simonyan said.
Commenting on the statement of the second President of Armenia Robert Kocharyan in his interview that the latter does not exclude that early elections will be held in the country, Simonyan said: "I do not see any preconditions for the early elections to take place in the country. There is no need for that. "
Simonyan also touched on the situation related to the Constitutional Court, noting that most likely the problem will be solved within the next 3 months, however, he did not open the brackets about what exactly will happen in this period. "I believe that Hrayr Tovmasyan should not have held the post of head of the Constitutional Court at all. Moreover, Tovmasyan still acts as a political figure. Today, the legislative and executive branches of the country enjoy the confidence of the people, however, the judiciary does not. This is the only branch of power that do not enjoy the confidence of the people, and I think this situation needs to be corrected, "he said.
To the question of whether there will be a need for constitutional changes after Tovmasyan resigns, the deputy speaker answered positively.
