ArmInfo.Armenia will raise the issue of anti-Armenian propaganda of Azerbaijan before European broadcasters.
According to Tigran Hakobyan, head of the National Commission on Television and Radio of Armenia, at a press conference on January 29, Armenia at the international level voiced its tough stance in connection with the anti-Armenian propaganda of Azerbaijani broadcasters. At the same time, he did not rule out the possibility that this year, at a meeting within the framework of the European broadcasters platform, a presentation will be presented that will clearly show how Azerbaijani broadcasters violate, as Hakobyan put it, all written and unwritten laws.
Speaking about the situation inside Armenia, the head of the Commission critically assessed the fact that foreign television channels broadcast through the public multiplex in the republic. This issue, as was noted, needs to be revised taking into account the fact that information directed against countries that are allies and partners of Armenia may be disseminated through uncontrolled foreign television channels. In addition, through such content manipulation of public opinion can be carried out, which may endanger the national interests of the republic.
As for local television and radio companies, the problem of ensuring pluralism of opinions was again raised here. According to Hakobyan, this issue should not depend on the political preferences of the owners of these companies, and it can be resolved by consensus. Another problem is the lacks of a legal definition of hate speech in Armenia, which opens up opportunities for all kinds of manipulations. Hakobyan noted that this issue was resolved not only in Europe, but also in the countries of the former USSR, and Armenia should also take this path, having given a legal definition to hate speech.
