ArmInfo. The head of the parliamentary ruling faction "My Step" Lilit Makunts said that members of the Council of Elders expressed their readiness to create a committee of inquiry to investigate possible corruption schemes in the Municipality of Yerevan.
In an interview with reporters, the lawmaker stated that the faction refused to take part in the vote on the election of the composition of the committee of inquiry of the Armenian parliament solely for the legal reason. "I assure you, there is no political connotation. Our decision was purely legal in nature. Since earlier we gave the local government more authority to fully separate the branches of government, this created for us a certain framework that we cannot go beyond," stressed Makunts.
The head of the "My Step" faction emphasized that members of the faction did not communicate with Yerevan Mayor Hayk Marutyan on this issue, there was no need for this. "We are doing everything possible to ensure that our activities are as transparent as possible. Moreover, we always welcomed all the proposals of the opposition. But this issue should be dealt with by the body that has the authority. Our control over local governments is determined by law, in which it's clearly fixed in which issues we have the right to intervene, and in which we don't. In cases where we have sufficient powers, we will definitely control the situation, "the MP said. The lawmaker also noted that members of the government and the National Assembly are doing everything possible to strengthen the role of the opposition. It should be noted that on January 22, the My Step faction sabotaged the composition of the members of the parliamentary commission of inquiry to study agreements on the transfer of vehicles and other property to the Yerevan Municipality, the provision of services by various entities, the transfer to the Yerevan community of real or movable property, including property, as well as non-property rights and related construction permits. As a result, the committee was never formed.
