ArmInfo. Two persons were charged in the criminal case of faking silver medals of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia. This was reported by the press service of the RA Prosecutor's Office.
As previously reported, on June 24 of last year, the police received a message that since September 2016, instead of commemorative silver medals of the parliament, items of other material were supplied, which caused damage in the amount of about 9 million drams. A criminal case was opened on the grounds of clause 1 of part 3 of article 178 of the RA Criminal Code (Fraud on an especially large scale).
It turned out that, using his official position contrary to the interests of the service, bypassing the provisions of the Law on purchases, in 2015-2017 he purchased gilded silver copies of the and at an LLC owned by a friend. At the same time, the ordered medals were made not of silver, but of copper and zinc, and their total cost amounted to about 1.4 million drams.
In this regard, Kochar Khachatryan, head of procurement department of administrative and economic administration of NA apparatus as well as the head of the aforementioned G.G. LLC were charged under paragraph 1 of part 3 of article 38-179 of the RA Criminal Code. The latter compensated for the damage caused.
Earlier, by a decision of the court of first instance of general jurisdiction of Yerevan, a measure of restraint in the form of detention was chosen in respect of both accused, but subsequently the court granted the applications of the defenders of the accused to replace the arrest with bail.
It is noted that factual data was obtained on other corruption abuses that took place during the indicated period in the RA National Assembly. The necessary investigative and procedural actions are carried out to establish the identity of all persons involved in these acts and bring them to criminal responsibility.
As previously reported by the media, Kochar Khachatryan is the godson of President of the Constitutional Court Hrayr Tovmasyan.
