ArmInfo. The best way to prevent war is to arm with equipment and prepare the army for hostilities, Tigran Karapetyan, member of the Standing Committee on Defense and Security, MP from the "My Step" ruling bloc, expressed a similar opinion in an interview with reporters on December 24.
Summing up the results of the year in the military industry, Karapetyan indicated the acquisition by Armenia of the latest weapons, the implementation of reforms in the field of catering for military personnel, and the toughening of punishment for bringing a serviceman to suicide. <In 2019, the Armed Forces of Armenia replenished with modern weapons, in 2020 a new replenishment of equipment is also expected. In addition, in the coming year, we expect our companies to be active within the framework of the agreements that were signed with the Ministry of Defense on the production of unmanned aerial vehicles and communications>, Karapetyan said. As a positive fact, he noted the fact that in 2019 the military leadership of Armenia changed its rhetoric and its philosophy, in particular, voicing the new principle that if Azerbaijan again takes the adventure, Armenia will not sit in the trenches.
Speaking about the work of the Committee to study the circumstances of the April war in 2016, Karapetyan noted that in mid-2020, the Committee will present the results of the study and try to answer questions that concern the public. At the same time, referring to the criticism of the opponents that the policy of the new authorities allegedly increases the threat of a new war, Karapetyan advised the opponents, first of all, to think about the reasons for the April escalation. "Even if we analyze it superficially, the main reason for April 2016 lies in the fact that Azerbaijan received a significant advantage in armament and the balance was upset in 2008, whereas earlier it was more or less maintained," Karapetyan noted.
He stressed that now the actions of the authorities are aimed at preventing a recurrence of a possible transition of the conflict to the military phase. Negotiations are continued but, the desire for peace continues to be our desire, but the best that Armenia can do in this matter is to acquire modern weapons systems, thereby restore the unbalanced balance, and proceed with the creation and production of our own military equipment>, he said. Nevertheless, Karapetyan believes that the main factor in the possible resumption of hostilities remains the presence of the illusions of the Azerbaijani authorities regarding the achievement of success by military means.
