ArmInfo. The roots of hatred in Armenia were laid by Robert Kocharyan, who usurped the power that belonged to citizens. A similar opinion was expressed to ArmInfo by MP of the parliamentary fraction of the "My Step" bloc Arusyak Julhakyan.
"In this, he was actively supported by cultural figures who signed today the demand for his release from custody. They were silent for years, watching the seizure of power, violence against citizens, falsification of election results, torture suffered by citizens who dared to defend their own constitutional right. Finally, all these figures were silent on March 1, 2008, when their fellow citizens were killed on the streets, they were silent in the subsequent period, when prisons were filled with political prisoners, "she said.
In this light, according to Julhakyan, it is at least dishonest to talk about the moral and psychological environment in the country, since they personally contributed to the formation of an atmosphere of hatred towards Kocharyan and his regime. According to the lawmaker, there is no such an environment in today's Armenia, but again, Kocharyan and his supporters are trying to imitate it, also by making similar statements.
Moreover, according to the parliamentarian, if there are any disagreements between the authorities and citizens today, this is primarily a disagreement regarding the punishment of representatives of the former criminal regime and its servants. In particular, citizens believe that the current government takes an excessively mild, liberal approach towards its predecessors, which the latter simply do not deserve.
To note, the other day, Kocharyan's supporters formed the initiative group "Freedom to Kocharyan", which intends to seek his release. The coordinator of the initiative group, a former member of the ARF, Aghvan Vardanyan stated that the group was created on the basis of the authors of the petition of public and political figures with a call to release Kocharyan. According to him, according to the results of the collection of signatures demanding the release of Kocharyan, about 60 thousand registered signatures of the citizens of Armenia and Artsakh have already been collected.
Julhakyan questioned the information about 60 thousand signatories of the demand for Kocharyan's release. According to her, the real situation is most vividly illustrated by the fact that one third from 60 public figures who signed the petition has stated that they have not signed it. In her opinion, this suggests that, according to a long-standing habit, Kocharyan's circle continues to falsify everything and everyone. In this light, according to Julhakyan, it is a question how many people from 60 thousand signatories are aware that they have signed it.
