ArmInfo. The Armed Forces of Azerbaijan have dominant positions over 17 settlements of the Tavush region of Armenia. A similar opinion was expressed by commander of the first reconnaissance and sabotage detachment, head of the "Art of Survival" organization Vova Vartanov to ArmInfo.
"This is what allows the Caspian Turks to put pressure on our villages. Another feature of the border in Tavush that allows them to gain an advantage is the number of settlements. Only a few villages are located against many villages on our side from Azerbaijan," he stressed.
On the evening of December 18, Azerbaijani forces fired from small arms and machine guns at the Ijevan- Noyemberyan highway and the village of Koti, Tavush region. According to press secretary of the Armenian Ministry of Defense Artsrun Hovhannisyan, the enemy's fire was suppressed by resorting to retaliatory actions. The enemy fired on the border villages of the Tavush region of Armenia - Baghanis, Koti and Voskepar in October. Fortunately, victims were avoided even then, but the communities suffered material damage.
Mount Ondundag, which is higher than the Armenian position, located on Azerbaijani territory, and it is the positional advantage of the enemy, Vartanov explains. The expert considers the capture of the mountain with the accompanying placement of Armenian positions there to be the only way to stop shelling the villages of Tavush. "Sooner or later, these positions should be taken. Our positions should definitely be placed there. When this is done, it's a question for our Ministry of Defense. I can only say that this issue needs to be resolved. In the end, the enemy keeps Armenia and Georgia, an interstate highway. And this is unacceptable, "said Vartanov.
