ArmInfo. Security agencies have been and remain one of the most important pillars of statehood. This is stated in the congratulatory message of the President of Armenia Armen Sarkissian on the occasion of the Day of Worker of National Security Bodies. In the message, the president noted that, having traveled a difficult path, the NSS was able to become a system that is clearly aware of its mission and takes it seriously.
''The modern world is moving forward at a frantic speed. In parallel, challenges and threats not only increase and become more complicated, but also change. However, the national and state interest remains unchanged, which should be an unshakable guide for each of us and, in particular, employees of the national security bodies'', the president said.
Sarkissian noted that the focus of the activities of the security agencies is the preservation of the sovereignty, security and territorial integrity of the country, the protection of the constitutional system and ensuring the rights and freedoms of citizens.
According to the president, much depends on the loyalty of each employee of the Security Service system, personal actions, awareness of duty and responsibility, professionalism, and moral character of the person.
Given the race and competition in the field of new technologies and ideas, the president called for an effective combination of experience, knowledge and technology. As previously announced by presidential decree, Samvel Hayrapetyan and Robert Bazikyan were appointed deputy directors of the National Security Service.
In September 2019, the former head of the NSS, Artur Vanetsyan, announced his decision to leave the post, so far the post of head of the service remains vacant. The acting director of the National Security Service is Eduard Martirosyan.
