ArmInfo. Issues related to Armenian identity are the basis for the revision of subject criteria and are considered priority, however, the speculations associated with this have nothing to do with the developed and implemented programs and reforms. Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports Arayik Harutyunyan stated this at a government meeting, noting the importance of strengthening and studying subjects of Armenology in schools.
According to him, the funds that will be allocated for the implementation of Armenological programs abroad have significantly increased in the Budget of 2020. In addition, new Armenological programs and strengthening of lessons on subjects of Armenology in schools are planned.
In turn, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan noted that technological education does not mean that the patriotic upbringing of children will suffer. According to him, it is impossible not to educate children in schools in the Armenian language, Armenian literature and history, but to fill this gap in the engineering departments of universities. "We are moving towards a deep and meaningful reform of general education, and 2020 will be a year of concrete steps in this industry," the prime minister assured.
To recall, earlier, a project was sent to relevant institutions to amend the law on education and science, according to which the Armenian language and literature and the history of Armenia will not be included in the list of compulsory disciplines in the curriculum of universities, which will independently decide whether to include these subjects in the program or not. Universities, thus, will have the opportunity to increase hours devoted to the study of specialized disciplines.
