ArmInfo.Yerevan will continue to be consistent in the matter of upholding the security of the Artsakh people. A similar opinion was expressed by ArmInfo to Russian political analyst Andrei Areshev.
"Based on the long years of the conflict's history, today it is only possible to predict the intention of Armenia to consistently uphold its position on ensuring the security of the population of both Artsakh and, in fact, Armenia. And all the latest impulses in the settlement process indicate the absence of any changes in the position of Yerevan in this issue after the "velvet revolution," he said.
The recent statements by Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov on Armenia's introduction into circulation as an option to resolve the "Lavrov Plan" are considered by the political scientist as another attempt by official Baku to bring an additional negative impetus to the negotiations.
Last week, Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov said that negotiations with the Armenian Foreign Minister Zohrab Mnatsakanyan "discuss specific and real issues," in particular various documents, the last of which, allegedly on the initiative of Yerevan, is the "Lavrov's plan". Mamedyarov praised the "Lavrov's plan" as based on the Madrid principles, "the result of intense discussions held two years ago in Moscow."
Areshev praised the recent statements of Mamedyarov as part of a rather active line of Azerbaijani negotiators on Karabakh in the direction of actualizing Baku's own vision of the settlement process. According to the political scientist, statements and similar steps by the co-chairs and Armenia cannot be perceived in a positive constructive manner, which, accordingly, will not lead to the successful promotion of the negotiation process.
"The Karabakh conflict should and can be resolved solely on the basis of a mutually acceptable compromise between the parties. The OSCE Minsk Group co-chairing countries are completely solidarity on this issue, which is more than obvious. Given this fact and the above circumstances, the complete futility of Baku's attempts to speak with Yerevan positions of power and, accordingly, dictatorship, "concluded the Russian political scientist.
It should be noted that commenting on Mamedyarov's statement, the Armenian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Anna Naghdalyan stated that at this stage there was no discussion about any document. According to Naghdalyan, Yerevan is in the negotiations for the realization of the right of the people of Artsakh to self-determination. "Thus, all those proposals that do not imply self-determination of the Artsakh people are unacceptable for Armenia," Naghdalyan said.
