Prosecutor General of Armenia presented a cassation appeal against  two persons involved in case of March 1, 2008

ArmInfo.Prosecutor General of  Armenia Arthur Davtyan submitted a cassation appeal regarding the  judicial decisions handed down against the persons involved in the  case of March 1, 2008 - Samvel Harutyunyan and Masis Ayvazyan.

According to the press service of the Prosecutor General's Office, in  2008 the aforementioned persons were found guilty of part 1 of  Article 316 of the RA Criminal Code for participating in protests on  March 1, 2008. As a result, Harutyunyan was sentenced to one year,  and Harutyunyan was sentenced to conditional imprisonment for a term  of 1 year and 6 months.

During the checks, it turned out that the constitutional and  conventional rights of the accused to a fair trial were violated. In  addition, the guilty verdict was based on the testimony of police  officers who were not properly verified during the proceedings.  During the court hearings, the defense's requests for the  interrogation of several witnesses were also rejected. Based on the  above circumstances, Arthur Davtyan appealed to the Court of  Cassation with a request to cancel the court decisions and recognize  Samvel Harutyunyan and Masis Ayvazyan as guiltlessof the act they  were charged with.
