ArmInfo.Prosecutor General of Armenia Arthur Davtyan submitted a cassation appeal regarding the judicial decisions handed down against the persons involved in the case of March 1, 2008 - Samvel Harutyunyan and Masis Ayvazyan.
According to the press service of the Prosecutor General's Office, in 2008 the aforementioned persons were found guilty of part 1 of Article 316 of the RA Criminal Code for participating in protests on March 1, 2008. As a result, Harutyunyan was sentenced to one year, and Harutyunyan was sentenced to conditional imprisonment for a term of 1 year and 6 months.
During the checks, it turned out that the constitutional and conventional rights of the accused to a fair trial were violated. In addition, the guilty verdict was based on the testimony of police officers who were not properly verified during the proceedings. During the court hearings, the defense's requests for the interrogation of several witnesses were also rejected. Based on the above circumstances, Arthur Davtyan appealed to the Court of Cassation with a request to cancel the court decisions and recognize Samvel Harutyunyan and Masis Ayvazyan as guiltlessof the act they were charged with.
