ArmInfo. On December 3, lawyer of RA Defense Minister Seyran Ohanyan, Karen Mezhlumyan, submitted a motion to terminate the criminal prosecution of his client.
Explaining the reasons for his application, the lawyer noted in particular that Article 300.1 of the RA Criminal Code was adopted a year after the incriminated facts. Thus, the actions of his client at that time were not qualified as a crime.
To recall, today in Yerevan the trial in the case of second President of Armenia Robert Kocharyan and other former high-ranking officials began. In addition to Kocharyan, the case includes, in particular, former Deputy Minister of Defense and former CSTO Secretary General Yuri Khachaturov and former Presidential Administration Chief Armen Gevorgyan.
The investigation accuses Kocharyan, former defense minister Seyran Ohanyan and Khachaturov "of overthrowing the constitutional order".
