ArmInfo. Over the 15 years since the introduction of the Ombudsman institution in Armenia, this structure has made a significant contribution to the protection of human rights in the republic. RA Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated this on November 26, speaking at a forum dedicated to the 15th anniversary of the Ombudsman's office in Armenia.
According to him, today, in terms of protecting human rights in Armenia, there is a large agenda.
As for the challenges facing the country, here Pashinyan admitted that in Armenia democracy is on an emotional plane, which, in his opinion, is an emotional continuation of the "velvet revolution". "We need to strengthen democracy institutionally, so that it does not depend on either the leader or any party, and we will move forward in this matter," the Prime Minister said.
As noted, the protection of human rights is one of the most important goals in a democratic state and society. The Prime Minister admitted that over the past 15 years, relations between the Institute of the Ombudsman and the Government of the Republic of Armenia have not been simple. Thus, the first three Ombudsmen did not hold this position until the term for the termination of their powers, but resigned, which was perceived by society as a sign of deep disagreement between human rights defenders and the authorities.
, new conditions for the work of the Ombudsman were created in Armenia, since the revolution was made by the citizens of the country, thereby creating an atmosphere in which a person is the main value. This, of course, does not mean that the sphere of protection of human rights is in perfect condition in Armenia. This means that the protection of human rights is important and priority for the Government, and the Ombudsman's institution is one of our main allies>, Pashinyan assured.
Pashinyan emphasized.
