ArmInfo. Armenian President Armen Sarkissian, who is on an official visit to the State of Qatar, has visited the Qatar Foundation.
As the RA President's press service told ArmInfo, Sarkissian got acquainted with the main directions of the Foundation's activities, its structure and ongoing programs. The head of state was informed that the Foundation is called upon to help the country "become a knowledge-based economy by unlocking human potential." It includes a number of institutions, including a scientific and technological park, a library, and an educational city. It has branches of Georgetown, Cornell and other prestigious universities, as well as a branch of University College London. One of the Foundation's most popular initiatives is the Global Innovation Summit on Education, held in 2009, which serves as a global platform for introducing innovations and new approaches in the field of education.
After inspecting the Foundation, President Sarkissian met with its leader and co-founder, Her Highness Sheikha Moza bint Nasser. The latter presented the President of Armenia with educational and scientific programs implemented by the Foundation, and thanked the President of Armenia for participating in the opening of the World Innovation Summit organized by the Foundation.
The President of Armenia said that the opportunities for cooperation are great, because they have common and overlapping interests.
Sarkissian also introduced the Atom (Advanced Tomorrow) presidential initiative to develop new technologies and science in Armenia, expressing the belief that the Qatar Foundation can also be an interesting partner in this program.
Agreeing that the potential and opportunities for partnership are great, the interlocutors agreed to create a working group to clarify areas of cooperation.
