ArmInfo. The issue of studying the Armenian language in universities should not be considered if it is not a question of passing the subject at a specialized faculty or a related field. A teacher of the Yerevan Waldorf School and a teacher of YSU History Department, art critic Ara Atayan, expressed a similar opinion in an interview with ArmInfo, commenting on the legitimacy of the demand for the resignation of the head of the Ministry of Education voiced by the ARFD party "Dashnaktsutsiun".
Recall that today the Dashnaktsutsiun ARF party issued a statement demanding the resignation of Araik Harutyunyan, arguing that the continued stay of Harutyunyan as a minister threatens the future of the Armenian education system, Armenian science, Armenian culture and Armenian sports. The party's attack is motivated by the fact that a project on amendments and additions to the law on education and science was sent to working discussions in relevant institutions, according to which the Armenian language and literature, the history of Armenia will not be included in the list of compulsory disciplines in the curricula of universities. Instead, universities will be able to increase hours, devoted to the study of other specialized disciplines.
An experienced teacher noted that every step aimed at improving the education system should not be faced with fierce resistance and demagogy. is studied in schools as a compulsory subject with an unprecedented number of hours, and then this entire cycle is repeated from grades 10 to 12, and finally students pass an exam on it, then after all this it is assumed that the graduate schools know the Armenian language at a fairly serious level. And if a graduate does not know the language well enough, then questions arise for the school, and for the rest, I think everything should concern university governance, which can solve these issues independently>, Atayan said. However, he noted that the level of knowledge of the Armenian language, which is given by the school, as well as the study of other subjects in Armenian language is sufficient to ensure that graduates in the future freely and very good command of the native language.
In his opinion, those applicants who have problems with the level of knowledge of the Armenian language are "sick" with this even after 4 years of studying at the university. The Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports of Armenia Araik Harutyunyan also stated that the bill being prepared will stimulate a better study of subjects - the Armenian language, literature and history - in senior classes of secondary schools.
