ArmInfo. On November 6, the 32nd sitting of the Inter- Parliamentary Committee on Cooperation between the RA National Assembly and the RF Federal Assembly will be held in the Black Castle of Gyumri, the press service of the RA NA reports.

To recall, the Black Castle was built in the middle of the XIX century after the end of the Russian-Turkish war of 1828-1829. In 1834, a Castle was laid on the top of the hill, the construction of which took more than a decade. It was a round fortification made of black stone (basalt), for which it received its name. After the defeat of Russia in the Crimean War (1853 - 1856), the Black Black Castle received the status of first class castles. Throughout its history, it has never been under siege, but played an important role in the victory in the wars over the Turks, which lasted until 1878. Since the 1940s, not far from the fortress, there has been a garrison of the 102nd Russian military base.
