ArmInfo."We highly appreciate the mediation efforts of Yevgeny Primakov in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict settlement. We also remember very well that thanks to his humanitarian efforts in 1996, 39 Armenian prisoners of war were returned to their homeland from Azerbaijan."
On November 1 at the Institute of Oriental Studies of the National Academy of Sciences of Armenia during a speech at the scientific conference "Middle East: New Trends and Prospects" dedicated to the 90th anniversary of the outstanding Soviet and Russian Orientalist, diplomat and statesman Yevgeny Primakov, Deputy Foreign Minister of Armenia Grigor Hovhannisyan announced.
At the same time, he stated that the brilliant political and diplomatic career, the fundamental legacy of Yevgeny Primakov did not need a description. According to Hovhannisyan, it is difficult to overestimate the contribution of Yevgeny Primakov to the establishment of the school and traditions of Soviet oriental studies, and it can be said with confidence that for most Orientalists of the post-Soviet space these traditions are of tremendous value. "I consider it symbolic that the event dedicated to Primakov's 90th anniversary is held within the walls of the Institute of Oriental Studies of the National Academy of Sciences of Armenia, which, along with the Department of Oriental Studies of Yerevan State University, are a forge of diplomatic personnel. I was also forged in this forge," Hovhannisyan said.
According to him, Primakov was always a welcome guest at this Institute, with whom he was associated for many years of fruitful cooperation. The deputy minister also added that it is not surprising that Primakov's scientific works occupy an honorable place on the shelves of the library of the Institute of Oriental Studies of the NAS of RA.
It should be noted that the Russian Foreign Ministry in the Republic of Armenia and the RCSC in Yerevan supported the conference. An exhibition dedicated to Primakov was also presented on the sidelines of the conference.
