ArmInfo.The US is interested in developing effective cooperation with Armenia. This was stated by the US Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Republic of Armenia Lynne Tracy during a meeting with Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.
According to the press service of the government, first of all, the prime minister expressed gratitude in connection with the adoption of the resolution on the recognition of the Armenian Genocide by the US House of Representatives. "This fact is a powerful step in the direction of historical justice and is important for the entire Armenian people, the descendants of the Armenians who escaped from the Armenian Genocide," he said.
Touching upon the Armenia-US partnership, Nikol Pashinyan noted that the Armenian government has an ambitious agenda for democratic reforms. In this context, he noted that the assistance of international partners, including the United States, will further contribute to its successful implementation.
In turn, the US Ambassador to Armenia, saying that in the framework of Armenia-US cooperation programs in 2019, US support increased by 40% compared to previous year, suggested discussing the possibilities of its use in the democratic and economic development of Armenia.
According to the report, during the meeting the parties exchanged views on current programs for the development of tourism, energy, agricultural business, and SMEs. In addition, questions were raised regarding the need to implement initiatives that stimulate civic engagement of youth. The parties also touched on the possibilities of cooperation in the process of reforming the judicial-legal, anti-corruption, economic, legislative sectors.
According to the RA Statistical Committee, the foreign trade turnover between Armenia and the USA in January-August 2019 amounted to $ 166.1 million with a y-o-y growth of 7.4%. In particular, imports increased by 13.1% to $ 132.3 million, while exports fell by 10.2% to $ 33.8 million.
