US adopted resolution recognizing Armenian Genocide

ArmInfo. The US House of Representatives adopted a resolution recognizing the Armenian Genocide in the Ottoman Empire. 405 members of the chamber voted for the resolution, 11 voted against.  It should be noted that the adoption of the bill (H.Res.  266) was lobbied by the two largest groups representing Americans of  Armenian descent - the Armenian National Committee of America (ANCA)  and the "Armenian Assembly of America." They were supported by two  influential Jewish organizations - the American Jewish Committee and  the Anti-Defamation League.

As ArmInfo previously reported, for the first time in more than 30  years, the US House of Representatives held a vote on the Resolution  on the Armenian Genocide.

According to ANCA, the adoption of the resolution will inflict a  powerful blow on the positions of Ankara, which until today has  successfully applied the principle of "gag" to the Americans, to  their honest desire to remind the world community of this crime.

According to the BBC, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu has  already called the decision of the US Congressmen an attempt to "use  history to achieve political goals." Official Ankara is expected to  respond to Genocide recognition with the recall of its ambassador  from Washington, who previously called the text of the document full  of baseless accusations.

The fact of the Armenian Genocide in Turkey in 1915 was recognized in  Russia, Germany, France, Canada and in many other countries of the  world. However, Turkey has consistently protested against this, and  the US government avoided calling these events Genocide. The adoption  of the resolution in the United States, according to Western  observers, was faster than most observers expected.

Resolution No. 296 on the recognition of the Armenian Genocide was  submitted to the US House of Representatives for consideration.  According to the Armenian National Committee of America, a decision  was made during today's vote in the House of Representatives. By a  majority vote, it was decided to submit the resolution to the US  House of Representatives by closed procedure. , ANKA reports. In total, more  than 130 US senators and congressmen expressed support for this  resolution.
