ArmInfo. The Armenian-Russian talks were held at the Armenian Ministry of Defense, led by Defense Minister David Tonoyan and Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu.
As ArmInfo was informed in the press service of the RA Ministry of Defense, a tete-a-tete meeting of Tonoyan-Shoigu was held from the beginning, which continued in an expanded format with the participation of delegations.
In his welcoming remarks, Tonoyan highly appreciating the current state of the Armenian-Russian strategic cooperation, noted with satisfaction the effectiveness of joint activities in the military and military-technical sectors.
At the same time, the Armenian minister expressed his conviction that this visit of the delegation of the Russian defense department will give a new impetus to the further development of the Armenian-Russian allied relations and will contribute to strengthening stability and security in the region.
In turn, Shoigu noted that his visit began from Gyumri, and in this context indicated the friendly attitude of the local population towards the personnel of the 102nd Russian military base. The Minister of Defense of Russia noted with satisfaction that there is a high level of cooperation in both bilateral and multilateral formats in the defense sector and their strategic, allied nature. At the same time, he pointed out the importance of the consistent development of cooperation in the field of joint combat training, operational planning, military education, improving the efficiency of the 102nd Russian military base and several other areas.
At the meeting, an exchange of views took place on the current state of the Armenian-Russian strategic, allied partnership, on ways and prospects for further development of cooperation, as well as on regional and international security issues. The parties touched on the humanitarian mission carried out in Syria. Following the visit, a draft of defense cooperation between Armenia and Russia for 2020 was signed, which includes a wide range of areas of bilateral cooperation.
