ArmInfo.Former President of the National Assembly of Armenia Ara Babloyan has been charged.
Babloyan himself informed about it in an interview with reporters in Yerevan. At the same time, he emphasized that he did not agree with the charges pressed against him, he would remain in the country and would fight to the end in order to clear his honest name. He also did not go into the details of the prosecution, noting that his lawyer would tell about this, since he does not know what exactly he is allowed to tell within investigative restrictions. Babloyan stressed that this decision is illegal.
"I strongly disagree with the accusation and declare that the accusation is illegal. All my actions were within the framework of the Constitution and laws. There were no preliminary agreements. Everything was carried out within the ordinary procedures of the National Assembly," Ara Babloyan said. When asked if he considers the prosecution to be political one, he replied: "We will see that during the process."
A written undertaking not to leave the place was chosen as a measure of restraint against Babloyan.
To recall, the former Speaker18 of the National Assembly of Armenia Ara Babloyan was involved as suspect in the criminal case on usurpation of state power. In the framework of the same case, the acting Deputy Chief of Staff of the Parliament Arsen Babayan is accused. He was charged under part 1 of article 38-300 (complicity in usurping state power) and part 1 of article 314 (official forgery) of the Criminal Code of Armenia.
The reason for such a charge, according to the investigation, was a violation of the registration deadline for the resignation of the former chairman of the Constitutional Court, Gagik Harutyunyan. According to the investigation, Harutyunyan submitted a statement on March 2, 2018, while it was registered on March 5. Gagik Harutyunyan himself claims that the statement was submitted not on March 5, but on March 1.
