ArmInfo. The Armenian government is determined to expand the capabilities of the penal system, guarantee the rights of employees, as well as to increase the attractiveness of work in the country's penitentiary institution. This was announced today, October 21, at the event dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the RA Criminal Correction Service, said the Minister of Justice of the country Rustam Badasyan.
<It is indisputable that the New Armenia created new prerequisites for the development of the penal system. The protection of human rights, the rule of law, humanism, unbending will, aimed at reaching out to a citizen isolated from society - these are the key guidelines that should become an integral part of your daily activities. And in order to achieve this goal, it is necessary to eradicate corruption and the criminal subculture>, the minister said, at the same time thanking head of the penitentiary service Arthur Goyunyan and the penitentiary staff for making crucial changes in this sector.
According to Badasyan, after serving a sentence in a penitentiary institution, a person should be ready to return to society as a conscious citizen, and for this purpose, persons in prisons should be provided with the opportunity to receive education, work, spiritual and cultural development, as well as strengthen effective communication with the outside world. To achieve this goal, it will be necessary to constantly monitor and implement the best international practices.
Badasyan also added that the perennial problems existing in the penitentiary institution have become fertile soil for the spread of criminal culture and corruption.
In conclusion, the Minister of Justice assured that in addition to protecting the rights of persons in custody, the government is determined to develop the capabilities of the correctional institution and guarantee the rights of employees of the correctional institution, as well as to increase the attractiveness of the service in the correctional institution
