ArmInfo. Former bodyguard of ex-President of Armenia Robert Kocharyan - Aghamal Harutyunyan will be questioned as part of the investigation of the incident occurred 18 years ago related to the death of a Georgian citizen Poghos Poghosyan. Information on this was confirmed in the Investigative Committee of the Republic of Armenia.
According to the source, Aghamal Harutyunyan is in Armenia and he will be summoned for interrogation. To recall, the tragedy occurred in a cafe in the center of Yerevan in September 2001. According to the official version, a skirmish occurred in the cafe toilet between security guard of then president Robert Kocharyan - Aghamal Harutyunyan and Poghosyan. The latter, during the incident, allegedly tripped, hitting his head on the tiled floor. Poghosyan later died from head injuries. Kocharyan's former bodyguard was then charged with criminal negligence and death by negligence, and sentenced to two years in prison. Meanwhile, on September 30 of the current year, Advisor to the Prosecutor General Gor Abrahamyan stated that new data appeared suggesting that this is not about death through negligence, but about the deliberate deprivation of a person's life. A new investigation is being conducted on the basis of recent testimony of British citizen Stephen Newton. The latter on that day was in the same cafe and, as he recently told the Armenian media, he saw with his own eyes how Aghamal Harutyunyan and other people brutally beat Poghosyan.
