ArmInfo.Turkey suffered an "unfortunate" fiasco, putting forward at the very beginning of the session of the World Inter-Parliamentary Union the issue of introducing into the agenda of the project "Double standards in the fight against terrorism."
Mikayel Melkumyan, MP from the Prosperous Armenia faction participating in this session, told reporters on October 15 that France, in turn, raised the issue of preventing Turkey's invasion of Syria from participating in the agenda of the new project. "Italy, Egypt and many other countries also joined the initiative put forward by France. In turn, the project put forward by the Turkish delegation gained 4 times less votes and was thereby rejected," Melkumyan noted.
The MP also stressed that the head of the Turkish delegation, after making this decision, defiantly left the room. "Despite its many efforts, the international parliamentary community slapped the Turkish side with its initiative," he said.
"I would like to note that against the initiative put forward by the Turkish delegation, almost all European countries, as well as Armenia and China, voted. In turn, some countries in the region, including Iraq, voted in favor. There were also abstentions," Melkumyan.said.
It should be noted that the delegation of the Armenian parliament was in Belgrade, where it participated in the session of the World Inter-Parliamentary Union.
