ArmInfo.. Head of the Republic party, former Prime Minister of Armenia Aram Sargsyan expressed a similar opinion to ArmInfo.
On October 1, a meeting of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council was held in Yerevan with the participation of the leaders of 5 EAEU member states, as well as invited guests: Iranian President Hassan Rouhani, Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and Moldovan President Igor Dodon. Within the framework of the Yerevan summit, negotiations between the presidents of Iran and Russia, as well as negotiations between the Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and Russian President Vladimir Putin, took place. "I very highly and positively assess the EAEU Yerevan meeting and its results. Having held the EAEU summit in Yerevan, Armenia has shown its own significance, presented itself as a factor in international relations, the international agenda. In this light, it is very important that the meeting of the
Presidents of Iran and Russia Hassan Rouhani and Vladimir Putin was organized precisely in Armenia and on the initiative of Armenia. Both Rouhani and Putin did not want to take this initiative, but clearly wanted to meet. And the mere fact that Prime Minister Pashinyan, already said yelling about the role of Armenia as a bridge between north and south, " the politician stressed.
Commenting on the prospects of the EAEU, in particular, the possibility of expanding the organization beyond the post-Soviet space, in the context of the participation of the leaders of the Islamic Republic of Iran and Singapore in the Yerevan summit, the former prime minister praised them as not high. According to him, declaring his intentions to expand the EAEU in any direction, in reality, the President of the Russian Federation is only interested in strengthening Moscow's influence in the post-Soviet space.
According to him, the event in Yerevan was organized at the proper level, and the Armenian leadership, unlike its predecessors, behaved with great dignity. In Sargsyan's opinion, this is evidenced even by the appearance of Putin at the door of the presidential palace in Yerevan in splendid isolation. While the remaining heads of state, including the head of Armenia, were waiting for him inside the building.
The Eurasian Economic Union was founded on January 1, 2015. Members of the organization are Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Russia. Currently, Uzbekistan is considering the possibility of membership in the EAEU. The total market of the EAEU is 170 million people.
