ArmInfo. The Investigative Committee (IC) of Armenia conducts investigative measures to identify circumstances in the case of obstructing the professional activities of the Yerevan "Haeyli" press club (Mirror - Ed. note).
According to the press service of the IC, on October 5 a video appeared on the social network in which a group of people threw eggs at the wall of the "Hayeli" press club, fixed it with posters and stated that they would not allow the work of this media. Young people said that representatives of the press club disseminate pro-Azerbaijani information.
In connection with this incident, a criminal case was opened in the Armenian police under article 164 (Obstruction of the legitimate professional activities of a journalist) of the RA Criminal Code.
The above four young people are being held as suspects in the case, and a written undertaking not to leave was chosen as a measure of restraint. Necessary investigative steps are taken to identify all the circumstances of the case.
It should be noted that the head of the press club, Angela Tovmasyan, stated that the attack was related to her opposition position, as well as to the position of the authorities in connection with the situation with her brother Hrayr Tovmyasyan. Ombudsman of Armenia Arman Tatoyan also commented on the incident, saying that attacks on the media are unacceptable.
To recall, the ruling "My Step" faction initiated a process to terminate powers of the Constitutional Court's President Hrayr Tovmasyan. Parliament has already approved the corresponding draft law, which has been submitted to the Constitutional Court. Members of the Constitutional Court will decide whether Tovmasyan will leave the post or not.
