ArmInfo. On October 2, the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) took into the proceedings the statement submitted by the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Armenia regarding the receipt of an advisory opinion on the case, which was accepted for consideration by the Constitutional Court on the basis of statements from the second President of Armenia Robert Kocharian and the court of first instance of Yerevan. ArmInfo was informed about this in the press service of the Constitutional Court of Armenia.
Recall, the Special Investigative Service of Armenia on July 26, 2018 charged Robert Kocharian with the overthrow of the constitutional order in the framework of the criminal case on the dispersal of protests on March 1-2, 2008. The ex-president was arrested for two months. Kocharyan's defense appealed the arrest to the Court of Appeal, which quashed the decision of the trial court, citing the inviolability of the former president, but the cassation court of the republic returned the case for further consideration. In December, Kocharyan was again arrested, but on May 18, the trial court released the former head of the republic from custody. The latest decision to arrest the ex-president was made by the court of appeal on June 25. The former head of the republic is also charged with receiving a bribe on an especially large scale. Robert Kocharian believes the charges are trumped-up political persecution.
