Brother of Vayots Dzor Governor`s Assistant detained in the framework  of the criminal case of beating an Armenian Armed Forces officer

In the framework of the criminal case, which was initiated by the Investigative Committee of Armenia in connection with the beating of Armed Forces officer Ara Mkhitaryan, a resident of Vayots Dzor region Zaven Grigoryan was  detained. Earlier brother of Zaven Grigoryan Assistant Governor  Harutyun Grigoryan was detained in a criminal case, who seriously  injured Lieutenant Colonel Ara Mkhitaryan.

According to the press service of the IC, on September 18 this year,  a resident of the Shirak region, officer of the N-th military unit  Ara Mkhitaryan, was delivered to the Medical Center of Yeghegnadzor  CJSC unconscious. On the same day, he was transferred to the central  clinical hospital of the Ministry of Defense of Armenia with a  preliminary diagnosis of "severe closed craniocerebral trauma, bruise  of the right hemisphere of the brain of moderate severity" and other  severe injuries. According to a certificate from a medical  institution, he was urgently operated on, his condition is assessed  as extremely serious.  A criminal case was opened on the grounds of  part 1 of Article 112 (intentional infliction of grievous bodily  harm) of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Armenia. An  investigation team was formed. Based on the results of the  investigative measures, during the preliminary investigation, a whole  series of circumstances of the incident were revealed, the identity  of one of the citizens who committed the alleged crime was  established. It turned out to be a 28-year-old resident of  Yeghegnadzor (born in 1991).

Thus, it turned out that the officer was injured on September 17 at  around 11:40pm in the courtyard of one of the buildings in the city  of Yeghegnadzor during a conflict with a 28-year-old guy because of  clarification of some issue. It also turned out that during the  conflict, in addition to Mkhitaryan, two more officers who were  serving in the same military unit were injured.  Based on the  evidence, a 28-year-old citizen was charged under part 1 of Article  112 of the Criminal Code of Armenia, and arrest was selected as a  preventive measure against him. Data on the participation in the  incident of Zaven Grigoryan was obtained. He was detained on  suspicion of intentionally causing grievous bodily harm to  Mkhitaryan. Investigative actions in a criminal case are continuing.   To recall, the relatives and friends of the officer require fair  investigation and that the governor resigned and was even convicted.  Governor Trdat Sargsyan, who is a member of the ruling Civil Contract  party, previously stated that he had no reason to worry, he was not  personally present at the incident. The Investigative Committee  confiscated video cameras installed in the territory adjacent to the  scene of the incident. Nevertheless, amid the scandal, the governor  of Vayots Dzor Trdat Sargsyan announced his intention to resign.
