ArmInfo. Today, the destruction of chemical radioactive waste is a priority for Armenia, however, the republic does not have enough opportunities for this. As the Ministry of Emergencies of the Republic of Armenia reported to ArmInfo, Minister of Emergency Situations of Armenia Feliks Tsolakyan stated this at a meeting with the head of the EU delegation to the Republic of Armenia Andrea Victorin.
However, he added that the regional location creates additional problems.
Tsolakyan stated that there is a waste disposal plant in the Iranian city of Isfahan, and the Iranian side is ready to move the waste for destruction, but there is a financial problem. He is convinced that international cooperation can be very useful in this matter.
In her turn, Victorin stated the readiness of the EU to assist the development of Armenia, which was reflected in the Comprehensive ad Enhanced Cooperation Agreement between Armenia and the EU, and where importance is attached to the element of protection of civilians. At the same time, she expressed her conviction of the need to raise public awareness on reducing risks and the consequences of natural disasters.
