As the RA President's press service told ArmInfo, Sargsyan congratulated the Chinese Ambassador to Armenia Tian Erlun and the representatives of the diplomatic mission on the occasion of the country's national holiday on behalf of the Armenian people and on their own behalf. "China is a friendly country close to us. It is becoming even closer thanks to the One Belt, One Way initiative, both economically and politically. We have the potential to further expand and deepen our relations," said the President. Armenia. In turn, Erlun, expressing gratitude for the congratulations, noted that a number of events were held on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the founding of the PRC, but the visit of the President of Armenia to the embassy is the most important. Sargsyan and Erlun exchanged views on ways to develop Armenian-Chinese relations, as well as on the president's initiative to organize a conference on China in Armenia, which the ambassador considered important. It was also mentioned about possible cooperation within the framework of the ATOM (Advanced Tomorrow) program, one of the new presidential initiatives in the field of the development of science and technology in Armenia.
It should be noted that the "One Belt, One Way" concept is China's international initiative to improve existing and create new trade and transport corridors connecting more than 60 countries of Central Asia, Europe and Africa, which is designed to promote the development of trade relations between them and China. The idea of forming the Silk Road Economic Belt was put forward by Chinese leader Xi Jinping and was first voiced during his speech in Astana (the old name of the capital of Kazakhstan, Nur-Sultan) as part of a state visit to Kazakhstan in September 2013. The project cost exceeds $ 1 trillion.
