As ArmInfo was informed in the press service of the Russian Embassy in Armenia, up to $ 18 million will be allocated through the UN World Food Program to finance the next stage of the project to establish a sustainable school feeding system. As part of this initiative, from 2016 to 2019 more than $ 20 million was allocated.
Another $ 2.8 million will be allocated to the United Nations Development Program for a project to promote inclusive economic development in the border regions - Gegharkunik and Vayots Dzor.
Russia also finances a number of other projects within the UN structures.
Earlier, the then Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, Grigory Karasin stated that Armenia occupies one of the key positions in Russian assistance programs. "Targeted financial grants, gratuitous deliveries of goods and services are provided in a bilateral format, affordable loans are provided. Multilateral support is provided in cooperation with international institutions, UN agencies," Karasin said.
He noted that with the financial support of Russia, various projects are being implemented in Armenia in the fields of health care, education, environmental protection, disaster management, combating infectious and non-communicable diseases, and combating poverty. "The regions, social groups, and even entire sectors of the republic's economy become beneficiaries. As part of Russia's interaction with UNDP, a number of projects are being implemented in Armenia, including those supporting rural development ($ 5 million has been allocated) and tourism ($ 3 million ), " Karasin said. He recalled that UNAIDS is working in the field of prevention, control and surveillance of HIV and AIDS. Over six years, more than $ 16 million has been allocated for the project.
"The total budget of the World Food Program" Sustainable School Nutrition "is more than $ 20 million," Karasin said, also noting that since 2016, $ 60 thousand was allocated to the budget of the UNICEF Children's Fund for the development of neonatal services.
