Nikol Pashinyan: We are determined to promote democracy and reform in  our country

ArmInfo. Over the past year, there have been stupendous changes in Armenia. Speaking at the 74th session of the UN General Assembly, the Prime Minister of the  Republic of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan, quoted by the press service of  the Government of the Republic of Armenia, said this.

According to him, in December last year, early parliamentary  elections were held in Armenia, which were not appealed by any  political party for the first time in 25 years. They were also  praised by international observers who rated the elections as free,  fair, and transparent. This was made possible thanks to the most  important achievement of the velvet revolution. As a result of events  a year ago, the international media described Armenia as a hope for  world democracy. Taking into account the democratic changes, The  Economist named Armenia the country of the year. "We are committed to  promoting democracy and reform in our country. This determination is  based on the strong mandate of our people, with whom we are  responsible for carrying out reforms, ensuring justice, improving the  economic and social conditions and developing our nation. There is  some resistance to the ongoing democratic reforms by the former  corrupt elite, which involves trying to thwart the policies of the  new government, which opted for a path of zero tolerance for  corruption. trying to evade justice by using their financial  resources and challenging our democratic achievements and the  democratically elected government of Armenia, which does not  redistribute property and assets ", - the head of government said.

He also said that the country's media are completely free from state  control or interference. However, some of them, adhering to the  policies of the former government, throw in fake news, inspiring  public mistrust of the goals of the velvet revolution. Despite this  problem, Nikol Pashinyan continued, our determination to promote and  protect media freedom is unbreakable. "I would like to state from  this high rostrum that the velvet revolution in Armenia was carried  out by its proud citizens as a manifestation of their desire to  reject corruption, abuse of power, a monopoly on economic and  political power, constant election fraud and political manipulation.  Political transformations into the country is aimed at realizing the  dream of a free, democratic and happy country - a dream that was born  at the dawn of the Cold War in the 1980s and brought independence to  our people, " zero Nikol Pashinyan.

According to him, the non-violent, velvet Armenian revolution proved  that democratic changes are possible in the modern world. But the  revolution was only the beginning of the mission, and probably its  easiest stage. "Now we are at a different, more important and  difficult stage of our mission. We must prove that democratic  transformations in Armenia are irreversible. We are proud that we  already have some results.  Our economy is growing at a stable and  fast pace. A very important ideological transformation , which  occurred in our country, contributed to this growth. For us, the  individual efforts of each citizen are important. This idea is the  driving force of our economic revolution. And the most important  mission of our government is to "in order to inspire and convince our  citizens to believe in their talent and ability for real changes.  Individual efforts have become a key formula for the success of our  political revolution.  Therefore, our common goal is to carry out an  economic revolution, as well as a political revolution committed  earlier," Nikol Pashinyan.
