ArmInfo. Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan met with Secretary General of the United Nations (UN) Anthonio Guterres in New York.
According to the press service of the Prime Minister of Armenia, after the official ceremony of handshake, the head of the Armenian government made an entry in the UN Book of Honored Guests, then a bilateral meeting between Nikol Pashinyan and Antonio Guterres took place.
The UN Secretary General welcomed the Prime Minister of Armenia at the UN Headquarters and his participation in the 74th session of the UN General Assembly. Antonio Guterres noted that the UN is following the processes taking place in Armenia, welcomes democratic developments and is ready to continue assisting Armenia and its people in achieving progress.
Nikol Pashinyan noted that he was glad to meet with the UN Secretary General, and thanked for the support provided by the UN office to Armenia in holding parliamentary elections at the end of last year. He emphasized that this support also contributed to the holding of the most democratic elections in Armenia over the past two decades, which the international community and observers rated as free and fair.
According to the Prime Minister, the new government of Armenia is committed to implementing a large package of reforms aimed at protecting human rights, ensuring the rule of law, reforming the judiciary, combating corruption, and ensuring equal opportunities. As Pashinyan noted, Armenia attaches great importance to the support of international partner organizations, including the United Nations, in the speedy and successful implementation of reforms.
The UN Secretary General welcomed the initiation of reforms by the Armenian authorities and emphasized that the Organization fully supports the reform agenda of the RA. The head of the Armenian cabinet expressed satisfaction with the activities of the UN office in Armenia, noting that the government is effectively cooperating with the Armenian representation of the Organization.
The Prime Minister of Armenia and the UN Secretary General also exchanged views on the Nagorno- Karabakh conflict settlement process, around global challenges, international and regional situation.
