ArmInfo. On the margins of the meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in New York, the theme of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict was again touched upon. Thus, according to the media, a meeting of the contact group on the Karabakh conflict of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) was held in New York, at which Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu "condemned the aggressive policy of Armenia towards Azerbaijan".
"We again condemned the illegal position of Armenia," the Turkish Foreign Minister later wrote on his Twitter page, commenting on the outcome of the contact group meeting. He assured that "the activity of the contact group is very important for supporting Azerbaijan in its just cause".
At the same time, the OIC official website emphasizes that the Organization of Islamic Cooperation is committed to contribute to the peaceful resolution of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. "It will also continue to show solidarity to Azerbaijan and provide ongoing support to it," the Organization stated.
In a statement, member states and organization bodies were also called upon to provide the necessary financial and humanitarian assistance to victims of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. To recall, the OIC decided to form a Contact Group to resolve the conflict at the summit in Istanbul in April 2016. The Contact Group includes the foreign ministers of the Organization's member countries. The decision to establish a Contact Group was made at the initiative of Turkey. So far, three meetings of the OIC Contact Group have been held.
We also note that the OIC does not have a mandate to resolve the conflict. The only one endowed with an appropriate mandate is the OSCE Minsk Group, which has been searching for ways to resolve the conflict peacefully for more than 25 years.
