ArmInfo.In New York, with the mediation of the co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group, a meeting was held between the Foreign Ministers of Armenia and Azerbaijan, Zohrab Mnatsakanyan and Elmar Mammadyarov.
As reported to ArmInfo by the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia, at the meeting the interlocutors discussed issues related to the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict settlement process, and also assessed the current situation. Mnatsakanyan praised the activities of the co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group and the Personal Representative of the OSCE Chairperson-in-Office.
During the discussions, the Armenian side noted the importance of permanent efforts to strengthen the ceasefire and reduce tension, including the introduction and strengthening of appropriate mechanisms. The need to take steps to create an atmosphere of trust was also emphasized, including through the implementation of previously reached agreements.
Speaking about RA citizens imprisoned in Azerbaijan, the Armenian side emphasized the need for their repatriation to their homeland.
From the point of view of promoting the negotiation process, Mnatsakanyan emphasized the importance of ensuring the proportionality of the commitments made by the parties within the negotiation process, confirming Armenia's principled position and approaches to settlement.
The parties outlined further steps in this direction, including the visit of mediators to the region, and the holding of the next ministerial meeting in the foreseeable future.
