ArmInfo. The court of general jurisdiction of Yerevan, presided by judge Anna Danibekyan, rejected the request of the lawyers of the second president of Armenia Robert Kocharyan to release the latter on bail.
As the judge noted, this decision can be appealed to a higher court within ten days.
Robert Kocharyan's lawyer Hayk Alumyan stated that the decision on the case of his client was made as a result of pressure on the court. According to him, the court has become a tool in the hands of the executive branch. "The judges have been deprived of their will, and now you are creating the appearance of a court, but in terms of content there is no court. No one is trying to hide the fact that the court makes all its decisions as a result of pressure from the authorities, and this is very regrettable," the lawyer said.
Alumyan noted that the defense asked for a day to submit a motion to recuse the judge, since Danibekyan acts under the influence of the branch that carries out political prosecution against Kocharyan. The next court hearing will be held on October 7 at 1:00 pm.
To recall, Robert Kocharyan is accused of overthrowing the Constitutional order on March 1, 2008.
