Gasparyan charged with abuse of official position

ArmInfo.Former Chief of Police of Armenia Vladimir Gasparyan was charged in the framework of a criminal case on the fact of abuse of official position by a number  of officials of the Ministry of Defense of Armenia.

According to the press service of the Investigative Committee (IC) of  the Republic of Armenia, according to the information received,  Vladimir Gasparyan, being the Chief (commander) and official, namely,  from June 1997 to October 2010, holding the post of Chief of the  Military Police of the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of  Armenia, and from November 2011 - Deputy Minister of Defense of the  Republic of Armenia, was informed that 3 servicemen of the military  unit of the Ministry of Defense, from 2001, 2004, and 2009,  respectively, were ordered to be appointed by the military police,  however, from the day of their appointment, they have not been to the  services.

Instead, one of them worked as the personal driver of the brother of  Serzh Sargsyan - Levon Sargsyan, and two worked in the guard of the  other brother of the president - Alexandr Sargsyan. Thus, as noted in  the message, guided by personal and group interests, in order to be  honored by the abovementioned persons by abusing their official  powers, Gasparyan allowed these employees to carry out work not  related to their status.

Moreover, according to the source, Gasparyan ordered the servicemen  subordinate to him not to give legal action to the indicated  circumstances. In addition, on December 3, 2010, while holding the  post of Deputy Minister of Defense of the Republic of Armenia,  Vladimir Gasparyan extended the service life of one of these  servicemen by 5 years.   As a result, these persons unjustifiably received AMD 21.691.481 from  the state budget, thereby causing damage to the state on an  especially large scale.

"Based on a comparison of the evidence obtained, V. Gasparyan was  charged under Part 2, Article 375 (Abuse of power, abuse or inaction  of power - the same acts that entailed grave consequences through  negligence, shall be punished by imprisonment of three to eight  years. ) of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Armenia.

Given that Vladimir Gasparyan is charged with the execution of a  criminal act in the status of deputy minister with abuse of power, it  is planned to send a criminal case to the General Prosecutor's Office  to discuss the implementation of the preliminary investigation by the  Special Investigation Service. The preliminary investigation of the  case continues, " the IC message said.
