ArmInfo. For appointment of senior officials, as well as other employees of law enforcement agencies, in Armenia criteria will be applied that meet the requirements put forward to candidates for MPs or members of the government. At its September 16 sitting, the RA National Assembly amended the law "On Service in the National Security Bodies" and in the package of related laws.
According to Taron Simonyan, a member of the RA National Assembly from the BrightArmenia faction, there have always been problems with the appointment of the heads of the National Security Council and the police. "During the discussion of the government structure, it was repeatedly noted that these two structures are political bodies, respectively, should be included in the government, however, all our proposals were ignored. We suggest that the criteria be applied when appointing senior officials, as well as other employees of law enforcement agencies, which would meet the requirements put forward before candidates for MPs or members of the government, " Taron Simonyan said. According to him, the parliamentary system of government implies equal requirements for deputies, members of the government and judges, as well as employees of other structures. In turn, the head of the My Step parliamentary faction Lilit Makunts stated that the faction would vote for the adoption of the document in the first reading, provided that the authors of the document will hold discussions with the deputies from the ruling faction and the government of Armenia by the second reading.
Earlier on his Facebook page, Edmon Marukyan noted that the package proposed to exclude the posts of the Chief of Police and the Director of the National Security Service from the list of posts of the Police and National Security Agencies and be included in the list of political posts.
