ArmInfo. The statement by the Georgian Foreign Ministry on the local elections in Artsakh is a stereotyped statement by the Georgian authorities. Artsakh's President's Spokesperson David Babayan said this in an interview with ArmInfo, commenting on a statement issued by the Georgian Foreign Ministry in connection with the NKR elections. At the same time, the representative of Artsakh President assured that Stepanakert is decisive to continue to develop democratic institutions in the country, regardless of the statements of both Georgia and other states.
"The statement of the Georgian Foreign Ministry is subjective and politicized, and this is due to the fact that official Tbilisi has problems with Abkhazia and South Ossetia, and it considers the electoral processes in other countries in this light," Babayan stated, adding that this does not mean that the Georgian people are hostile to Nagorno-Karabakh or its population.
According to the representative of the NKR President, in this matter, the Georgian authorities act exclusively in their national interests, and the Armenian side should learn from them, and in all matters rely on this principle.
To note, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) of Georgia issued a statement in connection with the elections in the NKR. A statement posted on the Ministry's official website states that Georgia respects the sovereign borders of Azerbaijan recognized by international law. "Confirming the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Republic of Azerbaijan within its internationally recognized borders, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia does not recognize the local elections held on September 8, 2019 in Nagorno- Karabakh and their results. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia supports a peaceful resolution of the conflict in full accordance with the norms and principles of international law and with the participation of the international community", the statement read.
