ArmInfo. On the evening before, manifestations of disobedience were recorded in individual penitentiary institutions of the Republic of Armenia, which were suppressed as a result of operational actions taken by the Penitentiary Service, the press service of the Ministry of Justice reports.
The department noted that in the event of a recurrence of such manifestations, the Minister of Justice and the Penitentiary Service, within the framework of the law, will take appropriate actions arising from the situation.
It should be noted that a wave of disobedience on the part of the convicts arose in Armenian prisons because of the government's decision to introduce amendments to the Criminal Code, the meaning of which is to abolish and suppress the culture of thieves. According to the document, the status of "thief in law" may be enough to bring a citizen to criminal liability. "It is envisaged to prosecute for granting, obtaining or maintaining the highest status in the criminal hierarchy, creation, leadership, participation, involvement and preservation of the criminal subculture," said Minister of Justice Rustam Badasyan. He also added that a member of the group, which will report its existence to law enforcement agencies, will be released from liability, or will receive a milder sentence.
Under the project, criminal liability is also provided for those people who will turn to "thieves in law" to resolve certain issues. At the same time, the minister said that it was not only about "thieves in law", but also about "criminal authorities." Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan responded to this with the phrase: "A thief should be in prison>.
