ArmInfo. The Constitutional Court of Armenia has accepted for consideration the statement of the Human Rights Defender on the issue of guaranteeing the rights of those police officers in respect of whom criminal prosecution is carried out.
As ArmInfo previously reported, the Ombudsman of Armenia appealed to the Constitutional Court on the issue of guaranteeing the rights of those police officers who are being prosecuted. Then, the Human Rights Defender office reported that in the framework of a criminal case instituted against a police officer by the current legislation, he was simultaneously deprived of the possibility of paying his salary, dismissal from the police on his own initiative, and also appointing him to another position, except for scientific, pedagogical and creative work. "In this situation, the police officer, in case the guilt is not proven by a final judicial act, faces the problem of meeting his immediate needs and those of his family. As a result, a number of his rights are violated, in particular, the right to free choice of labor, respect for private and family life, as well as the constitutional principles of the prohibition of discrimination, the presumption of innocence and proportionality, "the Ombudsman's office said in a statement.
