ArmInfo. Democracy can become the visiting card of Armenia, and Armenians can demonstrate to the world that democracy in the Republic of Armenia, based not on a specific person or political power, but on the will and aspirations of the nation, is irreversible. Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan stated this on August 27 at the annual meeting of heads of diplomatic missions.
According to Pashinyan, the first meeting of the heads of diplomatic missions after the "non-violent, velvet revolution" is a good reason to talk about the conceptual provisions, principles of Armenia's foreign policy and its tools. "First of all, we must answer the question - what are the goals of the foreign policy of Armenia," the prime minister said. As the head of government noted, the goal of the external course of the Republic of Armenia is to ensure and consistently increase the level of security and sovereignty of the state, as well as to create the necessary external environment for the welfare and security of citizens of the Republic of Armenia. To achieve this goal, according to Pashinyan, it is necessary that the "voice" of Armenia be "heard" and understandable to the world. Based on this, the Prime Minister pointed out that the task of the foreign policy of the Republic of Armenia is being formed, which consists in strengthening the subjectivity and authority of the state in the international arena. "Have we created the necessary conditions for this? Definitely, yes," Nikol Pashinyan emphasized.
According to the head of government, the fact of the implementation of the "non-violent, velvet revolution" in Armenia in 2018 comes to the fore in this matter. "The revolution, without exaggeration, has become a world-wide event and this fact should be used by the diplomatic corps to increase the recognition and authority of Armenia on the international platform," he said.
"The revolution of 2018 in Armenia was not about the person, political team or political force, but about the country, people and state, and its potential, which should be properly presented to the world not as information material, but an event characterizing the country," he said Pashinyan. According to him, this information can become an indispensable tool for demonstrating Armenia in the modern world, where everyone talks about the crisis of democracy.
The second factor for strengthening the political subjectivity of Armenia in the international arena is pan- Armenianism, Pashinyan noted. In foreign policy, according to the prime minister, this may be reflected in the rejection of the complex of a small nation. "This can be achieved in practice as follows: the diplomatic missions of Armenia in the countries of accreditation should not be represented as a representative of the country's ruling elite, or even Armenia, but as a representative of all Armenians," he noted. Currently, according to the head of government, all the necessary conditions have been created - the authorities of the republic enjoy equal support both in the Republic of Armenia and abroad. Within the framework of this logic, as Pashinyan noted, the work of diplomatic missions with the Armenian communities in the field and the office of the High Commissioner for Diaspora Affairs should be substantially revised
