ArmInfo. On the initiative of the Armenian Caritas charitable organization and with the direct assistance of the Governor of the Ararat region Garik Sargsyan, cities for children with disabilities and socially disadvantaged citizens will be built in the Shahumyan and Taperakan communities.
It should be noted that on August 8, with the aim of implementing the "City of Children" project, the Armenian government decided to provide free of charge charitable social and public organization "Armenian Caritas" with land rights in the above communities of the Ararat region. According to the project, it is planned to build a city in the communities where programs for child care, health protection, upbringing and development, and the effective organization of educational services will be implemented.
In this city, about 600 children with disabilities and children from socially disadvantaged families, as well as youth with their families, will find safe havens, and about 8.000 people from other regions and the capital of Armenia can become beneficiaries.
The project "City of Children" is based on a real model of the city of "adults" with its inherent infrastructures: a kindergarten, secondary and high schools, a hospital, a sports complex and other institutions adapted for people with disorders of the supporting-motor apparatus.
Residents of this peculiar city in everyday life will be able to acquire professions, master computer skills and use the knowledge and experience gained in agricultural processing shops, restaurants, hotels and other institutions operating there.
The construction of special cities for children is a common practice in the world, first applied in Italy after the Second World War.
According to the governor, the construction of such a complex for children of the Ararat region will help reduce child poverty, develop socially disadvantaged children, provision of education, self-expression, and adaptation to society.
Work on the construction of the "children's city" will begin this fall.
