ArmInfo.Persons affected by the events in Yerevan on March 1- 2, 2008, will receive state assistance. The decision was made at a government meeting on August 8. As RA Minister of Justice Rustam Badasyan noted, the law establishes that the forms of applications, the procedure for submitting and considering them, and the list of persons eligible for financial assistance are approved by the RA government. Financial assistance is provided from the state budget.
The Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Armenia will act as the authorized body considering the applications for assistance. At the same time, applications are accepted within three years from the date of entry into force of this decision.
The Office considers applications, making either a positive or a negative opinion. After the application is approved, the authority transfers money to the applicants' accounts within five days. As a form of assistance, the successors of the deceased will receive monetary compensation in the amount of 30 million drams. Persons who have received serious injuries that have led to a deterioration in their health will be able to count on 15 million drams, and those who have suffered moderate health damage - on 5 million drams. In turn, Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan noted that in this case we are not talking about compensation, but about helping people who suffered during the events of March 1-2, 2008. The issue of compensation can be considered in a slightly different format. The prime minister recalled that he himself was a participant in those events, but today it is important to solve the problem not on an emotional level, but on a legal plane. Moreover, in the presence of verdicts of the European Court of Human Rights, which has ruled in this case.
To recall, on March 1, 2008, in the center of Yerevan, as a result of a confrontation between the authorities and the opposition, 8 demonstrators and two employees of the internal troops, were killed, about 200 people were injured of varying severity.
