ArmInfo. Relations between Russia and the USA are far from even relations between the USA and the USSR during the Cold War. Such an opinion at the meeting with Armenian colleagues in the framework of the SputnikPro project in Yerevan was expressed by Fedor Lukyanov, editor-in-chief of the journal "Russia in Global Affairs", director of scientific work of the Development and Support Fund of the Valdai International Discussion Club.
"During the Cold War, there was mutual respect and a very serious perception of each other. Today there is no such respect and perception, which in the light of the huge imbalance is very, very dangerous. What surprises me on the current Russian-American agenda is the establishment of Russia as internal factor of American politics. In recent years, we have observed a completely opposite trend, "he stressed. At the same time, Lukyanov noted the complete failure of the attempts of the winners of the Cold War to extend after the collapse of the Soviet Union their own rules of the game to yesterday's opponents. According to him, Brexit became a landmark event in this context.
The political scientist believes that in the light of fairly rapid changes and transformations both within the United States and around their foreign policy, we can already talk about their global expansion in the past. According to his estimates, the slogan "America - first of all" will for a long time be the main leitmotif of American politics. And in such conditions, of course, on a smaller scale, it will immediately be projected onto the policies of other states. Because it is the United States that continues to set the tone in global politics.
In general, Lukyanov considers the past three decades as years of the seemingly formation of a new system of world order. According to his estimates, both the USA and Europe, and China with the post-Soviet states experienced the expectation and sensation of this. However, 30 years after the end of the Cold War, a new world order, according to his conviction, was never formed.
"Today's world is changing very quickly. It seemed unshakable yesterday, the rules and norms are crumbling before our eyes. As a result, yesterday's winners of the Cold War today were faced with a choice of what to do now and which direction to go. And if earlier in Europe, for example , it was believed that uncertainty is the prerogative of Russia, now Europeans themselves are not in a position to speak definitely about their own future, "summed up Lukyanov.
