ArmInfo.Armenian Deputy Prime Minister Tigran Avinyan today at the UN headquarters in New York will be the main speaker at the discussion of energy efficiency, innovation and environmental issues. The round table will be held in the framework of the UN High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development under the auspices of ECOSOC.
Avinyan announced this on his Facebook page. The event, as the Deputy Prime Minister pointed out, was organized within the framework of Armenia's chairmanship in the EAEU. The event will be attended by Minister of the Eurasian Economic Union Tatyana Valovaya, Permanent Representative of Armenia to the UN Mher Margaryan, Permanent Representatives to the UN of Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan.
The Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) is central to the work of the United Nations system in promoting all three aspects of sustainable development - economic, social and environmental. It is a central platform that facilitates discussion and the development of innovative thinking, the achievement of consensus on further activities, as well as coordination of efforts to achieve internationally agreed goals. It is also responsible for the follow-up to major United Nations conferences and summits. The Council was established in 1945 by the UN Charter as one of the six main bodies of the United Nations.
