ArmInfo.The Ministry of Health calls on citizens to avoid swimming in those areas of Lake Sevan where there are blue-green algae. This is stated in the statement of the department.
As explained in the press service of the Ministry of Health, "cyanobacteria" or blue-green algae are found throughout the world, especially in stagnant waters and nutrient-rich bodies of water. The report explains that some of their species produce toxins negatively affecting the health of animals and people, the effects of which people may undergo as a result of drinking "blooming" water, bathing in it or when swallowing through negligence.
"When bathing in such water, the following symptoms may occur: asthma, eye inflammation, rash, skin inflammation, allergic reactions. When swallowing water through carelessness, stomach pain, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, fever, sore throat, headache, "Pain in the muscles and joints, plaque in the mouth, and liver problems," the statement said.
In order to avoid such health problems, the Ministry of Health strongly urges not to swim in places where algae are observed, and immediately consult a doctor if the above symptoms occur.
"Despite the fact that laboratory studies show that the most dangerous areas are beaches adjacent to the communities of Vardenik and Martuni, however, algae, being living organisms, can mix, changing the ratio of species depending on air temperature and water, wind direction, therefore we once again urge to avoid swimming in those places where there is algae ", - advised the Ministry of Health.
