ArmInfo. The newly appointed Israeli Ambassador to Armenia Eliav Belotserkovsky (residence in Jerusalem) refrained from using the term Armenian Genocide, referring to the events of 1915 in the Ottoman Empire.
Thus, in an interview with journalists in Yerevan on the question of a possible change in the position of Israel on the recognition of the Armenian Genocide, he, in particular, said: "It was a terrible tragedy. This is truly one of the worst acts of intentional killing in the 20th century history and in human history. And, of course, the Jewish people and Israel actively oppose this. This issue has been voiced in our parliament". However, the Ambassador urged to wait for further developments. Answering the journalist's question, whether he purposefully avoids the use of the term genocide, the Israeli diplomat assured that the question is not what word is used to describe this terrible tragedy. "I think that the history of this terrible tragedy must be dealt with in order to prevent its reoccurrence", he said, apparently forgetting about the existence of another term that characterizes a similiar terrible tragedy, and which Yerevan does not fear to use, not giving Jerusalem about .
At the same time, answering the question of whether the Azerbaijani-Israeli good relations would hinder the establishment of effective interaction between Israel and Armenia, Belotserskovsky stated that the official Jerusalem, like Yerevan, has its own interests and relations with different countries, which consist of different components that, in his estimation, is quite natural. "Relations with Armenia are among the priorities, and we will strengthen them," he stressed.
He also assured that Israel is interested in opening a hub near the city of Gyumri, and if this project is successfully implemented, then it will involve Israeli businessmen and make it clear that there are many other similar opportunities in Armenia.
The Ambassador also evaded to answer the clarifying question whether he had discussed at the meeting with the Armenian President the issue of Israel's sale of weapons to Azerbaijan. He assured that Israel as well as Armenia is building its own relations. "Our task today is to strengthen relations with Armenia," the diplomat summed up.
To note, ArmInfo has prepared the article using the recording of the press conference, kindly provided to us by our colleagues. The press conference was held on special invitations. The criteria by which the questioners were chosen are at least strange. Certainly, it was not based on the principle of the presence of deep interest of this or that media in the Armenian-Israeli problems, not to mention the problems of a Middle East settlement. It turned out to be Hebraically, as the word says.
