ArmInfo. In the incident with the Russian MP in Tbilisi, the Orthodoxy factor also had a considerable place. Chairman of the Republic Party Aram Sargsyan expressed a similar opinion to ArmInfo.
"Orthodox Georgia and Apostolic Armenia are two Christian states that have traditionally been and continue to be an obstacle to the formation of the so-called "Great Turan." And in fulfilling this mission, our peoples have always hoped and continue to hope for Russia's assistance, if only on this issue. However, regretfully, Orthodox Russia treats natural allies and friendly nations as the United States treats enemies, "he noted.
From June 20, mass protests are taking place in Tbilisi due to the fact that during the session of the Inter- Parliamentary Assembly of Orthodoxy the Russian delegate, State Duma Deputy Sergei Gavrilov was suggested to sit down in the chair of the Georgian parliament. The latter was expelled from the seat on the presidium by Georgian politicians who interrupted the event. Against the background of the clashes of protesters with the police, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree banning direct flights to Georgia from July 8.
In general, the politician links the events in Tbilisi with the geopolitical processes in the region. According to his estimates, these processes actively influence both Russia and Turkey with Azerbaijan. In this context, each of the above-mentioned countries has its own interest in addressing a number of issues in Georgia.
In this light, Sargsyan is inclined to link the events in Tbilisi and the subsequent exacerbation of Russian- Georgian relations with the sale of Turkish S-400 air defense systems to Turkey. According to his estimates, counteracting these deliveries of NATO and the West, in general, is quite natural, given that the emergence of S-400 in Turkey will force NATO countries to rearm.
"Thus, Ankara has already become the most unreliable partner of NATO, which can even be put out of this structure. Judging by recent events in Tbilisi, in Georgia they all see and understand this perfectly and, accordingly, submit another application for membership in the Alliance. And the favorable atmosphere around the prospects of satisfying this application is a big problem already for Russia, "Sargsyan concluded.
